Lille Olympique Sporting Club, more commonly known as LOSC, is one of France’s most prestigious football clubs. Founded in 1944, the club is based in Lille, a city in northern France. The club’s origins date back to the post-war period, when several local clubs in the Lille region merged to form a single team. LOSC quickly became a major force in French football, rising through the ranks at national level. One of the most memorable moments in the club’s recent history was its Ligue 1 title victory in the 2010–2011 season. Under the guidance of manager Rudi Garcia and featuring iconic players such as Eden Hazard, Gervinho and Moussa Sow, LOSC enjoyed an exceptional season, winning the French league title for the third time in its history. This feat was repeated by Christophe Galtier, then in charge of the Lille side, who led his team to the French league title in 2021, finishing ahead of Kylian Mbappé’s mighty Paris Saint-Germain.

The Lille club boasts an impressive list of honours. Indeed, it has won four French league titles, in 1946, 1954, 2011 and 2021 respectively. The club has won six French Cups, achieving the cup-and-league double in 2011.

Marceau Somerlinck is the player with the most appearances for Lille. He has made over 430 appearances for LOSC. Jean Baratte, meanwhile, is the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, with over 170 goals for the Dogues.
