RC Lens football kits

The club was founded in 1906 under the name Racing Club Lensois. It has held professional status since 1934, despite a return to amateur status following severe financial difficulties. It regained its professional status in 1969. 1988 marked a real turning point for the club with the arrival of a young chairman, Gervais Martel. It was under his leadership that the club won its only French league title in 1998, finishing ahead of FC Metz. The following year, the club competed in the Champions League for the first time in its history. In 1999, the club won another title, the Coupe de la Ligue, again against Metz. The years that followed were a period of instability for the club, with several relegations and promotions. The Lens-based club managed to return to Ligue 1 in 2020 and has continued to improve year on year. Under Franck Haise, RC Lens finished second in the league behind Paris Saint-Germain, thereby securing a place in Europe’s premier football competition.

RC Lens is known for its passionate supporters, who create a fantastic atmosphere at the Stade Félix Bollaert. The ‘Sang et Or’ have one of the best atmospheres in France, which spurs the team on to excel. The ‘Chant des Corons’ rings out at every match at RC Lens’s ground. The lyrics evoke the lives of the miners and their attachment to their land and their ‘corons’ – the workers’ housing typical of the mining region. The song also evokes the solidarity and camaraderie that reigned amongst the miners, as well as the harsh working conditions they faced.

The Lens club managed to win the French league title in 1998 during an incredible season for the club. Lens also won the Coupe de la Ligue in 1999 and have claimed four French second-division titles. The ‘Sangs et Or’ have made three appearances in the Champions League, as well as 11 in the Europa League.

The player with the most appearances in the club’s history is Eric Sikora, who has made over 580 appearances for Lens. RC Lens’s all-time leading goalscorer is the Polish player Stefan Dembicki, who has scored over 200 goals for the ‘Sangs et Or’.
