A change of ownership in 2008 marked a turning point for the club

An Emirati investment fund bought the club in the summer of 2008. The new owners aimed to make Manchester City the greatest club in the world. After investing heavily in several new signings, the club won its first trophy in 35 years – the FA Cup – in 2011. The following year, the Sky Blues won the Premier League in the dying seconds of the match, prompting over-the-pitch celebrations by ecstatic supporters. Manchester City subsequently established themselves as the top team in the English league, but the club failed to win the Champions League, which remains a key objective for the club. It was not until 2023 that Manchester City achieved the Holy Grail by winning Europe’s most prestigious competition under Guardiola’s leadership.

Sergio Agüero is currently Manchester City’s all-time leading goalscorer with 260 goals, but record-breaker Erling Haaland has only one thing on his mind: dethroning the Argentine. The player with the most appearances for the Sky Blues is Alan Oakes. Many football stars have proudly worn the Manchester City shirt. Yaya Touré, David Silva, Robinho and Kevin De Bruyne are perfect examples.
