The club was founded in 1884 as Leicester Fosse. Based at Filbert Way, the English club plays its home matches at the King Power Stadium. In 1919, following the end of the war, the club was re-established as Leicester City Football Club. From the 1920s to the 1950s, the club struggled to establish itself in the top flight of English football and suffered several relegations. From 1957 onwards, the club returned to the English top flight and managed to remain there for a long time. During the 1962–63 season, the club won the first trophy in its history by lifting the League Cup following a victory over Stock City. In the 1980s, a new period of instability set in and the club suffered several relegations. The year 2010 marked a real turning point for Leicester. A Thai businessman bought the club and took it to a whole new level. The club returned to the Premier League in 2014 after dominating the Championship. It was during the 2015–16 season that the club’s finest chapter was written. With Ranieri taking charge of the team, the club got off to a flying start to the season, bolstered by high-potential players such as Vardy, Mahrez and Ngolo Kanté. Leicester went on to win the title ahead of teams with far larger budgets than their own, such as Manchester City and Chelsea.

Admittedly, Leicester City does not have the most impressive list of honours in English football, but the significance of certain titles won by the club must nevertheless be highlighted. The club has one Premier League title, one FA Cup, three League Cups and two Community Shields. Graham Cross is the player with the most appearances in the club’s history, having played 498 matches for the Foxes. The club’s all-time leading goalscorer is Arthur Chandler, with 273 goals to his name.
