After beating Chelsea in the semi-finals, the dream came to an end against FC Porto in the final with a 3–0 defeat.

The principality’s club is also renowned for its academy, which has produced numerous football stars. Lillian Thuram, Thierry Henry, David Trezeguet and Kylian Mbappé all have one thing in common: they were trained at the Monegasque club before going on to play for the biggest clubs. This academy has enabled the club to maintain a degree of stability through the regular emergence of promising young players. It has also been a sound financial strategy, generating revenue from the sale of some of Monaco’s star players.
