Arsenal Football Club was founded in 1886 in Woolwich, in south-east London, under the name Dial Square. The club was established by workers at the Royal Arsenal, hence its current name, and quickly emerged as one of the rising forces in English football. In the 1920s, under the guidance of legendary manager Herbert Chapman, Arsenal won its first major honours, including its first First Division titles in 1931 and 1933. Arsenal reached new heights in the years that followed, winning five league titles in the space of eight years, including a record-breaking run of three consecutive titles from 1932 to 1935. The arrival of French manager Arsène Wenger in 1996 marked the start of a new era of success for Arsenal following a long period of drought. Under his leadership, the English club won three Premier League titles, including the 2003–04 season, when they finished the campaign unbeaten – a feat that earned them the nickname‘The Invincibles’.

Arsenal is a club with an impressive list of honours. Indeed, the club has 13 league titles to its name, the most recent of which was in 2004. The club holds the record for the most FA Cup wins, with 14 triumphs in the competition. On the European stage, Arsenal’s record is virtually non-existent, with just one Cup Winners’ Cup victory in 1994. The club’s best performance in the Champions League was reaching the final, which they lost at the Stade de France in 2006 against FC Barcelona.

Thierry Henry is a true legend at the club, so much so that a statue in his honour stands outside the Emirates Stadium. He is the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, with over 200 goals to his name. David O’Leary, meanwhile, is the player who has made the most appearances for the Gunners.
